Alright so some people believe there is afterlife. But some people there is nothing after death. Is it just seeing black? You can't see if you're dead though. How you explain what's it's like not having not having anything happen when you die? Also, how do people live believing that? Just thinking about it scares me

Having no senses is incomprehensible to the human brain. It is much more complicated than seeing black as you will have no conscience.

You wouldn't even know that you were dead. You're just gone forever except as memories.

That's probably what happens to us in my opinion but it's nice to imagine that we mostly go to a place of never ending happiness. I'm not sure why it's so hard for people to imagine that you just stop existing. Try to think of it as if you just vanish into thin air. Except your body stays where it is.

Reincarnation is another cool idea but I don't know how that would work. Your consciousness surely dies with your dead brainwaves.

nothingness is literally impossible to comprehend. our brains aren't wired that way. we can handle infinity (some of us, anyway) but not nothingness.

as for what happens as far as science can tell. when you die, and you lose blood flow to the brain, your brain releases a lot of dopamine and other feel good hormones, which induces a euphoria on your way out. that's why people who have "died" and come back always report on heaven, and not hell.

I have claimed to see Satan. Doesn't mean that's what I actually saw.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I'm fairly sure everyone who says things like they "saw a light" has at some point in their life seen a movie or heard someone somewhere talk about how people see a light, so their consciousness just creates that for them even if they've consciously forgot.

I like the idea of reincarnation but if you're not you you're dead, if someone's memories are erased that person is dead and a new one is born.
If it worked like you're born in to another being as you then I think we'd know by now, a dog or a monkey would have found a way to tell people.

Or maybe we all turn in to ants and become obsessed with taking over the world.

Reincarnation sounds lovely but you're most likely to be something crappy like bacteria or an insect

I think it probably is just nothingness, certainly hope not but nothing godly happens in this world so I can't see why one thing supernatural like that would really happen to us.

My favourite theory is that we're experiments and when we die get transported to another planet in a new body to see if we can improve out species, better technology and stuff. If you were some kind of higher species being in control of that would be awesome, so maybe.

Not saying they did actually see hell for sure, I was just responding to lunar2 when he said, "always reports on heaven and not hell" which is not true

sorry. "almost always" is what i meant. you get hundreds of reports of heaven, or bliss, or a euphoric state, etc, for every report of hell, or fear, etc.

People that believe that there's nothing after death believe that our sense of self and consciousness and sense of existence is simply an illusion caused by our combined senses, which are tied specifically to our higher thinking.

Those people are more realists than anything else. The sense of self can't exist without the physical mechanisms that make this thought possible.

And to be entirely honest, most atheists or non-religious people actually don't believe that we become nothing... because we don't. Our sense of self disappears and lives on only with our family and friends, but most Atheists and non-religious folk understand the circle of life, and how energy and material recycling works.
We become worm food in death, but our bodies also fertilize the ground, which makes grass grow, which then the animals eat, and the animals get eaten by other animals. Those animals then discard that material through waste, and our nutrients fertalize the ground again.
It's an immortal cycle. If you want to talk about immortality, just think that the material that's in your body right now is going to live on forever through the cycle of life.

Just to get a few things straight. So you believe that are consciousness goes away or no? And if it does go away? We can't explain what it's going to be like right?

Yeah, most people believe your consciousness will just be gone.
And nobody can explain what It's like, as I've said before many people compare it to seeing black, but It's even more complicated than that as there would be no sense of sight at all, no sense of touch, no sense of hearing, no sense of smell, just nothing. You can't imagine what that's like.

Nothingness is impossible to comprehend because its a contradiction because it is not possible to be in that state In the same way it is to say try imagine finishing your apple and still have some apple left. When we die our senses die but not the fundamental law (That has yet to be discovered) which is what perceives our senses like a void deprived of sight, smell, hearing, touch which it receives from the brain. People are wrong we don't have 5 sense we have 6 which is the brain. Consciousness or the fundamental experience receives our brain /ego but the brain gives the illusion that it is the perceiver giving people the expression that they are the ego.

I'm pretty sure we do not have 6 senses. There is no such thing as the sense of brain...

we actually have something like 9 or 10 senses. direction, balance, hunger, pain, pleasure, temperature, those are all separate senses that don't normally get mentioned.
